Magic Mouse click too loud? How to make it silent
The Magic Mouse click is a mechanical press and there is no setting to make it quieter. The fix is to stop pressing: use tap to click instead.
Why the Magic Mouse is so loud
The whole top shell of the Magic Mouse is the button. Every click is a hard plastic press against a switch, and in a quiet room at night it carries through walls. There is no volume or force setting in macOS for it.
The silent fix
Tap2Click turns a light touch on the surface into a click, so you never press the shell. No sound at all. It is free, open source and works on every Magic Mouse generation. Download it here.
Other options, honestly
A Magic Trackpad is silent with tap to click, but costs more and feels different. Third-party silent-switch mice exist, but you lose the Magic Mouse surface and gestures. Paid gesture suites can add tapping too, with hundreds of other features you may not need.
Who this is for
Night owls, people sharing a room or a small flat, parents working next to sleeping kids, anyone on calls who hates the click on the recording.
